Citroen Xsara Picasso is a family car that is very popular in Poland to this day. The comfortable interior, utility and low purchase and service costs make this used Citroen often bought by people who have a small amount of money to buy a car. It has its limitations, but it offers a lot.
In its era, Citroën Xsara Picasso was distinguished by interior design and originality – today its other advantages, simple and durable mechanics and good durability come to the fore. For less than 10,000 zlotys, we can easily find a copy worth buying.
In 1998, Citroën began more than twenty years of its journey with compact vans with the introduction of the Xsara Picasso model – unlike other models, only one version of the body was produced here. About a quarter of a century ago, almost one box, a round body was shocked – to be a symbolic symbol. Of course, the Xsara Picasso is based on the design of the famous Xsara, which shares all the mechanics. Fortunately, when it comes to interior design, the designers didn’t have to force the donor dashboard into place. The bodywork is decently protected against rust, accident-free units have no rust blooms. Over time, light bulbs may need to be repaired or replaced.

The dashboard is made of soft materials, the same quality as that of the I C5 generation. The place in front of the steering wheel is taken by a shelf for small things, a set of digital clocks are placed on the dashboard, which fortunately does not worsen the ergonomics of operation in any way. Provided that the display works well, all its indications are perfectly readable even on sunny days – in a copy without a heated parking space, the clock can be damaged from time to time – the cost of repair is about PLN 400-600.

The position behind the wheel on the spacious, soft and almost flat seats fully reflects the character of the car – designed to move slowly. The seat was placed higher, improving visibility at the same time. The gearshift lever is placed next to the driver’s hand on the dashboard. The rear seat has three independent seats. We can each fold separately, arranging the space in any way. There is enough space for three adult or child seats. The trunk holds a reasonable 500 liters. Equipment offered on the Xsara Picasso includes full power, automatic or manual air conditioning, cruise control, four-speed automatic transmission, basic safety systems, factory radio with CD, on-board computer and a sunroof.

The running gear is based on cheap and durable solutions known from other models of the PSA concern. Therefore, McPherson struts and a torsion beam were used, providing an overall smooth environment that promotes a comfortable and smooth ride. The whole system copes well with the continuous network of Polish roads – fortunately, spare parts prices are not high, we also have a large number of replacements at various prices for every budget.
The range of car units is sufficient. All gasoline engines use multi-point fuel injection, a trouble-free timing drive using a belt – they work perfectly with gas turbines. We have four cylinders 1.6 91-109 HP, 1.8 115 and 2.0 137 HP. The cost of replacing the timing gear is about PLN 700, the operation should be repeated approximately every 80-100,000 km. Occasionally the exhaust gas circuit valve needs intervention.
The diesel engines are proven and appreciated designs with rail direct injection from the HDI family. The catalog opens with 1.6 HDI 92-109 KM ensuring good performance, high work culture, flexibility and, most importantly, ascetic combustion, circulating on the road even less than 5 liters per hundred kilometers. It was also offered a 90-horsepower 2.0 HDI variant, which was impressive for durability and economy. In any case, the optional four-speed transmission increases the comfort of driving in a crowded city, apart from that, the price of comfort is the slow but smooth operation of the transmission. Many users are not happy with the accuracy of the standard five-speed manual transmission.

Each of us knows the Citroën Xsara Picasso due to its unique appearance. Production ended in 2012, and for the last time it was offered alongside its successor, the C4 Picasso, as its cheaper alternative. High popularity today translates into high supply on the secondary market.
