Peugeot Polska published a post on social networks about the Europ.Raid charity rally, in which about 300 Peugeot 205 cars took part. It would not be surprising if it were not for the fact that the entrance was shown with a picture from the front gate of the extermination camp in Auschwitz.
Auschwitz was on the Europ.Raid route and its participants visited the extermination camp as a memorial to the worst events of World War II. The entry of Peugeot Polska, however, was not about such a tour and meeting, and the contrast between the dark, fully realized entrance of the camp and the light sound and content was surprising.
Auschwitz has become a symbol of terror and genocide to the world. It was founded by the Germans in the mid-1940s in the suburbs of Oświęcim, which was then annexed by the Third Reich and the Nazis. The first transport of Poles arrived at KL Auschwitz on June 14, 1940 from Tarnów prison. In less than 5 years of existence in Auschwitz, from 1 to 1.5 million people of many nationalities died.
The entry has already been removed from the Internet, but the question remains why a photo of such a symbolic place was used for communication on social networks. From what we have learned, one of the participating agencies is responsible for handling these communication channels.
It would be good for the manufacturer to rethink its communication strategy in the future and carefully verify what is going to the recipients. Historical memory, especially in difficult times like these, when wars are happening outside our country, is very important.
