The used Peugeot 308 of the first generation with the 2.0 HDi engine is one of the most attractive proposals on the secondary car market. It is believed, the culture of French diesel engine work is ahead of German competitors, and Peugeot does not cause any problems to work. It’s lovely with a nice interior and lots of space.
Compact cars are characterized by high complexity, the same thoughts were made by Pan Tadeusz when he was looking for a successor to the Renault Megane I that was damaged eight years ago, there was a need to change the family car quickly, the choice was limited for Peugeot. 308 I and Renault Megane II generation. We managed to find a Peugeot 308 in one of the commission shop versions – the proven Polish history made for a quick purchase.

The selection criteria took into account the economical diesel engine, the Polish origin of the car and the technical condition of the model. 308 Pan Tadeusz was used for the first years in the same company, after a lease period with a mileage of 164,000 km, it was sold. The 2012 five-door hatchback was powered by the familiar 2.0 HDi engine with 163 HP.

In Europe, the first generation of 308 was produced from 2007 to2013 The body, which is only a stylistic evolution of its predecessor, has no problems with rust, the car is still in the hands of Pan Tadeusz in the garage – which has a great effect on the good condition of paint coating. The interior is made of good quality materials, it is soft and precisely sealed – yet it does not make disturbing sounds when driving on uneven surfaces.

A set of analog clocks with an on-board computer screen is legible and still looks great, the old-fashioned navigation function is just as easy. Pan Tadeusz directly admits that currently the color screen is only used to display radio signals. The factory navigation, even after updating the maps, is not impressive. On the other hand, the comfort of traveling in the front seats is amazing – contrary to the appearance, we do not get into them, they have a beautiful and pleasant appearance, in addition, they hold the body well when moving around. The driving position is high compared to the competition, which may be a nuisance for some people. Operation of all functions and board systems using only classic buttons does not present any problems. Two people up to 180 cm tall can sit comfortably in the back seat, as long as the taller passenger is not sitting in the front seat.
On the secondary market, a large number of copies have good equipment, the basic units are very rare. A constant addition, as in the Pan Tadeusz car, is a dual-zone automatic climate control, navigation, a comprehensive sound system, many security systems and leather upholstery.
The 308 I is powered by a 163 HP 2.0 HDi four-cylinder engine mated to a standard six-speed gearbox. The connection, also with all the passengers on board, allows a very good movement while maintaining low fuel consumption. In urban traffic, the 308 is satisfied with 6.5-7 liters of diesel fuel, the same result will end up traveling on the highway at the maximum speed allowed.
Driving on national roads according to the law will allow the result to be reduced even below 5 liters per hundred kilometers. After years spent in the first generation Megane, Pan Tadeusz praises the precision of the Peugeot gearbox and the durability of the clutch. The factory component surrendered only after covering 234,000 km – the dual mass flywheel was also replaced. We will appreciate the thoughtful step of the gear ratio especially on the road.

During the lease period, an oil check was carried out every 20,000 km, using oil in accordance with the manufacturer’s recommendations – each operation was carried out at an authorized service center. Pan Tadeusz shortened the interval between replacements to 10,000 km. Timing belt and all accessories have already been changed twice – every 120,000 km, costing about PLN800 So far, the diesel particulate filter and turbocharger have not needed any attention. During the last oil change, a little sweat was observed on it, which, in the opinion of the technician, is still not the reason for its replacement or regeneration. Injectors are also common. The only expensive event was the failure of the air conditioning system last year – repair of the compressor cost PLN 1,200.
Peugeot 308 And according to the user, there are no big and bad flaws. Simple running gear is also durable and sound. However, it was an economical and powerful diesel that deserved excellent reviews.
