When hybrid powertrains officially debut in the NTT Indycar Series in 2024, racing fans and car enthusiasts will get a sneak peek of the upcoming technology and the new Honda CR-V Hybrid Racer in the season opener next month with the Firestone Grand Prix of St.
David Salterspresident and chief technical officer of Honda Performance Development (the North American racing division of Honda and Acura of America), said the project car is a true Indycar beast in the mold of the Honda CR-V.
Honda CR-V Hybrid Racer: here is the new SUV of the Japanese brand
There CR-V Hybrid Racer is a mobile electrified laboratory to test where the talented men and women of HPD and Honda can go with electric, hybrid technology and 100% renewable energy. It embodies the Japanese brand’s fun ethos, showcases electrification, and nods to the roots of automotive culture and racing heritage.
Designed and engineered by the engineers of Honda Performance Development (HPD) in California and the designers of Automotive Design Section of North America (NAAD) of American Honda and built onHonda Automotive Development Center (ADC) in Ohio fromAmerican Honda Racing Team (HART extension), the Honda CR-V Hybrid Racer has 2.2 liter Honda V6 Indycar turbo engine and of conduction under the body’s work 2023 Honda CR-V Hybrid creating a real laboratory on wheels to continue to develop electric technology.
The CR-V Hybrid Racer works with it 100% renewable Shell racing oil. and features Skeleton Supercapacitors and Empel MGU hybrid engine technology. The CR-V Hybrid Racer’s chromoly tubular steel frame is clad in a “hybrid” work designed by NAAD.
From the waist up,Hybrid Racing to use metal body work of the sixth generation CR-V, including windshield, windows and even a sunroof. The lower half is made from a carbon composite, including a large front splitter and flared fenders and hoods. The bodywork is completed by a large rear wing and half-cut butterfly doors on both sides for the driver and passenger.
Dave Marekexecutive creative director, said that, when the Design Studio learned about this project, they already had a good relationship with HPD through other projects, including the Acura ARX-06.
Honda CR-V Hybrid Racer dressed in a one-of-a-kind cabin designed by Lili Melikian – chief exterior designer. The eye-catching design features a variety of Easter Eggs, including ghost images of the Indycar Series powertrain and circuit.
Livery has two colors
The drawings were inspired by the hybrid power train, which comes out Honda HybridBlue for Red Honda Racing indicating the duality of infection. While “speed squirkles” add a fun and dynamic layer and show the playful side of Power of Dreams.
While running, the project was codenamed “Animal”, with a look that resembles the silhouette of the Group B GT racing and rally cars of the 80s and 90s. But the technology under the bodywork is strictly 21st century.
The project strengthens the connections between HPD, the NTT Indycar Series and the Japanese automaker’s cars and provides more insight into the new Indycar hybrid train arriving in 2024.
It also showcases the fun and power available from Honda powertrains and showcases the innovation, creativity and capabilities of Honda Performance Development and the Honda Automotive Development Center.
There the new Honda CR-V Hybrid Racer will make its public debut March 3-5 at the season-opening Firestone Grand Prix of the NTT Indycar Series in St. Louis. Petersburg, Florida. The unique car will be displayed and shown on the track at several Indycar events, including the Acura Grand Prix of Long Beach (April 14-16), the Alabama Indy Grand Prix (April 28-30), the Honda Indy 200 at Mid-Ohio ( June 30-July 2), Honda Indy Toronto (July 14-16), Big Machine Music City Grand Prix in Nashville (August 4-6), Portland Grand Prix (September 1-3) and Firestone Grand Prix of Monterey, which concludes season (September 8-10).
In addition to Indycar race weekends, the CR-V Hybrid Racer will be seen mostly at special events throughout 2023.
