New Sainz disagrees with the time charge: “I needed to break the brakes for the McLaren mechanic”

Carlos Sainz had a really frustrating race at Zandvoort last weekend. The Spanish Ferrari driver went under the yellow flag and had 2 regrettable minutes on the pit lane. His very first stop was too long due to an error by his group and the 2nd minute led to a time charge. Sainz did not concur.

In the hectic last round of the Dutch Grand Prix, Ferrari failed for the 2nd time, in the pits. The Italian group altered Sainz’s tires this time within the courtesy time, however this time they overlooked Fernando Alonso. Sainz nearly slapped his colleague and got a five-second time charge from the stewards. It didn’t make his day any much better.

Sanz himself did not completely concur with his time penalty. The Spaniard thinks there was no risky release with points for the McLaren group. Sainz is estimated by Motorsport.com: “I saw it in the vehicle. When I was permitted to drive whatever was safe with Fernando. I had to brake to prevent the McLaren mechanic. That caused a hazardous release, if you can. Call it ‘hazardous’ even a bit. I was puzzled since I believed that I had actually conserved somebody’s life which I had actually not developed a harmful circumstance.”
