Mercedes-AMG Customer Racing led the GTD-Pro podium at Saturday’s Mobil 1 Twelve Hours of Sebring, declaring a 1-2-3 surface in the class.
Driving the No. 33 Mercedes-AMG Team Riley Motorsports Mercedes-AMG GT3, Ben Keating, Jeroen Bleekemolen, and Felipe Fraga held back the No. 16 Wright Motorsports Porsche 911 GT3 R of Patrick Long, Ryan Hardwick and Jan Heylen to take the success by a simple 0.741 seconds.
The No. 75 SunEnergy1 Racing Mercedes-AMG GT3 of Kenny Habul, Mikael Grenier, and Tristan Vautier followed the No. 33 and No. 16 throughout the line to finish the leading 3 in the GTD-Pro class and the Mercedes-AMG sweep of the podium.
Keating, Bleekemolen, and Fraga fought Long, Hardwick, and Heylen in the closing laps of the race, with Keating edging out Long at the checkered flag to take the win.
” It was an extreme fight all the method to the surface,” Keating stated. “At the start of the race, we understood the competitors was going to be difficult, however I’m happy of the method we drove and the method our Mercedes-AMG GT3 held up.”
The success in the GTD-Pro class marked the very first win of the season for Mercedes-AMG Customer Racing and the very first win in the IMSA WeatherTech SportsCar Championship for the No. 33 group.
