The final special edition Ford GT once again celebrates the brand’s great Le Mans success. Specifically, the Ford GT40 class win at the 2016 24 Hours of Le Mans.
The second generation Ford GT has been available since 2016. From the beginning it was clear that Ford would only build a limited edition for a limited time. Now this is coming to an end and Ford is launching the GT in a final special edition.
The Ford GT LM Edition celebrates the GTE class victory of the Ford GT40 at the 2016 24 Hours of Le Mans with drivers Dirk Müller, Sébastien Bourdais and Joey Hand. With the LM Edition, the super sports car says goodbye to production at the end of the year. Only 20 copies of the LM Edition are made.
A color inspired by a racing car
The carbon fiber body of the Ford GT LM Edition will receive a Liquid Silver base coat and a special red or blue paint scheme, bridging the gap on the Le Mans-winning #68 Ford GT. For this purpose, certain carbon components of the super sports car such as the front splitter, side skirts and door sill strips as well as the rear diffuser are given a matching deep color. The engine compartment cover and the fins on the exterior mirrors also take up this design theme. With this in mind, the 20-inch carbon fiber rims are given a high gloss finish with red or blue accents inside, while the titanium wheel nuts and Brembo calipers are finished in black.
3D printed titanium casting is perhaps unique. The swirling design of its tailpipes reveals the 655 hp, 3.5-liter EcoBoost biturbo six-cylinder engine. The titanium “GT LM” lettering on the tube also comes from a 3D printer.
Crankshaft for unique plaques
The interior features carbon fiber seats and exclusive Alcantara upholstery. On the driver’s side, they are designed in red or blue to match the design theme of the body. The front passenger seat is finished in ebony black with a color-coordinated top. The instrument panel is covered with Alcantara and Ebony leather; The latter also decorates the inside of the bar and the headboard. There are also many matt, shiny carbon fiber elements, for example for the center console, the air vents or the lower A-pillars. Ford Performance specialists make them from the crankshaft that took third place at Le Mans in the 2016 Ford GT with starting number 69. At the end of the race, the entire engine was divided into its individual parts, analyzed in detail and then stored. The powder from the ground crankshaft is now used as the raw material from which the badges for the LM Edition cars are created using 3D printing.
