Fiat will produce cars in Algeria. Stellantis concern, which owns the brand, has signed the contract.
A framework agreement has been signed between the Fiat brand and the Algerian authorities with the aim of producing cars locally and developing the automotive industry in Algeria.
The framework agreement was signed yesterday in Algiers between Samir Cherfan, Director of Operations for the Middle East and Africa Region of Stellantis, and Boussoussa Zineddine, Director of Cooperation of the Algerian Ministry of Industry. The framework agreement covers the development project in Algeria for industrial activities, aftermarket and spare parts for Fiat, one of Stellantis’ flagship brands, as well as the development of the automotive industry in Algeria. The celebrations were led by Mr. Ahmed Zaghdar, Minister of Industry of Algeria and Mr. Carlos Tavares, CEO of Stellantis in front of the Algerian and Italian Ambassadors.
After signing, Mr. Carlos Tavares met with the Prime Minister of Algeria, Mr. Aïmene Benabderrahmane.
“The signing of this system contract is in line with the historic position held by Stellantis and its brands in the Algerian automotive market,” said Stellantis CEO Carlos Tavares. “The quality of the negotiations makes us confident about the prospects for the development of the Fiat brand, which will want to meet the expectations of Algerian customers,” reads the announcement of concern.
Stellantis is looking for new business opportunities and lower operating costs, as announced by Tavares. The goal is to reduce 50% of production and sales costs and achieve a higher level of production. One way is to locate production in countries with lower labor costs.
