Especially today, in times of economic demand, a low-maintenance car and at the same time a permanent budget car is a very desirable vehicle. Most of us, relying on measurable relief from household budgets, decide to use simple and cheap cars every day. The 1.0 8V was a popular and respected engine, among others in the Peugeot 106 – now, despite its age, it works.

This unit opened the price lists of the Peugeot 106 and its twin Citroën Saxo for a long time, perfectly matching the characteristics of the small model of the segment A. The French engineers used a four-cylinder design instead of the popular three-cylinder at the time. engine – significantly lighter and more powerful -. Thanks to this, the unit has a high culture of work and durability. The combustion chambers were covered with a head and two valves per cylinder. In this configuration, the available power was around 45-50 HP. Today, such a value seems at least ridiculous. Remember, however, that the then representative of the A part had a weight of 800 kg, which, together with such a small force, created an adequate combination for good movement in urban areas.

Indirect fuel injection was used as simple, if not primitive. On the other hand, it is the simplicity that leads to the lack of operational problems and the cost of maintenance of the model is possible. Operating costs can be further reduced by installing an LPG installation, in the case of the 1.0 8V engine, a cheaper installation option is sufficient. Fortunately, the prices of new parts are rather symbolic, which will allow us to keep the final bill for major repairs at an acceptable level.
