Acciona Sainz took the checkered flag in a firmly objected to fight Sunday at the 2nd round of the NEOM Extreme E series, edging out Veloce to protect a remarkable success.
The 2 groups, whose chauffeurs were completing on the remote and difficult Profnatschok surface in Saudi Arabia, exchanged the lead several times throughout the race. In the end, the Acciona Sainz X44 duo of Carlos Sainz and Laia Sanz, were able to outrun their competitors to take the checkered flag.
The race started with Veloce’s Jamie Chadwick taking the early benefit, holding a comfy lead for most of the race. Sainz was able to close the space to Chadwick and then surpass her as the race headed into its last phases.
The tense fight continued up until the very end, with Veloce’s Stéphane Sarrazin pressing tough to attempt and restore the benefit. Sainz was able to fend off the obstacle and crossed the line simply 0.682 seconds ahead of the Veloce X44, protecting the group’s very first win in the series.
The triumph offers Acciona Sainz a huge increase in the standings, as the group now beings in 2nd location with 43 points, simply 4 points behind champion leaders Veloce.
The outcome topped off an interesting weekend of Extreme E racing, with the groups fighting it out on the Profnatschok surface which included a mix of dune, high hills, and rocky surface.
